The Cursa El Corte Inglés reaches its 45th edition on Sunday, May 11, consolidating the route of this popular athletic event through Barcelona’s most attractive streets. The 9:00 AM start, right in front of El Corte Inglés Diagonal, is organized based on the estimated times of the runners, all participating with a chip-enabled bib. It is a fast 10-kilometer circuit, certified by the Federació Catalana d’Atletisme, entirely urban, maintaining its essence and passing through streets such as Passeig de Gràcia, Aragó, and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, finishing at Plaça Catalunya.
The Fundación Xana is the social entity associated with the 45th Cursa El Corte Inglés. The organization has chosen this foundation for its purpose of offering comprehensive assistance and support to children and young people affected by serious illnesses and their families.
Registrations for the Cursa El Corte Inglés remain open and are exclusively online. They can be completed through the website cursaelcorteingles.cat until all 40,000 available spots are filled. Bib collection will take place at three El Corte Inglés stores: Plaça Catalunya (8th Floor), Diagonal (5th Floor), and Can Dragó (2nd Floor) from May 3 to 10.
As of today, more than 25,000 people have completed their registration, adding to the two million participants who have taken part in this event over its forty-four editions, maintaining gratuity as its main value.
This new edition of the Cursa has featured testimonials from sports and music figures who have given their selfless support to the race: the founding patron of the Fundación Xana, Luis Enrique, and his daughter, equestrian Sira Martínez; singer Joan Dausà; athlete Elena Congost; FC Barcelona footballer Ronald Araújo; RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia; and Girona Futbol Club player Cristhian Stuani.
Fundación Xana
Fundación Xana was established with the purpose of offering comprehensive assistance and support to children and young people affected by serious illnesses and their families. The goal is to be a pillar of support on all levels—emotional, physical, economic, and organizational—offering help during the challenging journey that illness entails.
In Spain, there are more than 25,000 children and adolescents suffering from serious illnesses. In most cases, families are overwhelmed by the impact of the illness and the changes it brings, both emotionally and in terms of family logistics. Fundación Xana aims to help these families and support them through programs and collaborations with entities also linked to pediatric patients, such as the Integrative Pediatric Oncology Unit at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (UOPI), a pioneering unit in Spain that offers a holistic approach based on scientific rigor and medical criteria to reduce treatment toxicities and improve the quality of life of children and adolescents suffering from serious illnesses.
The support offered by Fundación Xana is carried out through different intervention programs; from providing accommodation, contributing to family economy and logistics, and attending to different family members, to offering emotional support during illness or end-of-life and grief management. Overall, the foundation’s goal is to help families cope with a very difficult situation exacerbated by the lack of resources.
Aigües de Barcelona and TMB contribute to the sustainable development of La Cursa
La Cursa El Corte Inglés continues to evolve and reaffirm its commitment to sustainability and the values of sport. This 2025, for the first time, the event will have water from Aigües de Barcelona at its refreshment points, guaranteeing responsible hydration in line with its commitment to caring for the environment.
With the slogan ‘Barcelona és la cursa’ (Barcelona is the race), the city’s most emblematic race not only seeks to encourage physical activity and inclusion, but also to promote values such as solidarity and respect for the environment. For this reason, at the two official refreshment points, located at kilometre 5 and at the finish line, water will be distributed in compostable cups, thus contributing to the reduction of waste and the development of a more sustainable event.
This collaboration with Aigües de Barcelona reinforces the desire of the Cursa El Corte Inglés to become a benchmark in the organisation of major sporting events with a positive impact on the city. Thanks to this initiative, water consumption will be optimised and the ecological footprint of the race will be minimised, demonstrating that it is possible to combine a passion for running with respect for the environment.
In this line, and contributing to sustainable development and improving the mobility of citizens, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) is once again collaborating in the 45th edition of La Cursa El Corte Inglés. When picking up their bib number, participants will receive a single ticket valid on the metro and bus for their travel on the day of the race. Individual travel tickets will be made available to runners and will be given out while stocks last. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona is the main public transport operator in Catalonia and a benchmark company for citizen mobility in Europe and the world.
Sport, art and solidarity. The solidarity T-shirt of the 45th Cursa El Corte Inglés by the artist Edgar Plans
The fashion and sports equipment firm Under Armour, official sponsor of La Cursa, is producing, together with El Corte Inglés, a limited edition of solidarity T-shirts created by the Asturian artist Edgar Plans. The artist has collaborated selflessly in the creation of the image and has linked the essence of the Xana Foundation and La Cursa, with that of his works, which have a childlike character, with influences from artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and the world of animation. Throughout his career, this contemporary artist has combined art, social commitment and new technologies to spread his message and contribute to important causes.
The limited edition Under Armour solidarity t-shirts for the 45th Cursa El Corte Inglés can be purchased at El Corte Inglés de Pl.Catalunya, Diagonal, Can Dragó and on the website elcorteingles.es, while stocks last.
The price of the T-shirt is €20 and all proceeds from its sale will go to the Xana Foundation.
A race that is committed to the safety of the runners.
This year, as a new feature, Seguros El Corte Inglés Agencia Vinculada is contributing to the sponsorship of the race by providing insurance for the runners. This company distributes family protection solutions designed exclusively for El Corte Inglés customers: car, home and health insurance, among others. In addition, a large part of the insurance policies can be configured with a wide range of modalities and plans, to adapt to each customer.
Its main added value are the experts who, since 1983, have been accompanying customers throughout the whole process of choosing insurance, taking out the policy and after-sales service, in the different service channels (more than 100 branches both inside and outside El Corte Inglés shops and also by telephone and at seguros.elcorteingles.com).
More than a thousand people trained by professionals from the company RPM Sports, organiser of sporting events such as the Half Marathon and the Barcelona Marathon, Guardia Urbana, Institut Barcelona Esports, Federació Catalana d’Atletisme, Creu Roja and Voluntaris 2000 ensure the quality and smooth running of the event. La Cursa El Corte Inglés counts once again with more than 20,000 litres of Aquarius Zero, a brand committed to sport and solidarity.
Next Sunday 11 May, Barcelona és La Cursa!
